1 out of every 3 children in the United States is overweight or obese. That’s 17% of America’s children (10 million), and another 15% are considered at risk of becoming overweight. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over the past three decades, the childhood obesity rate has more than doubled for pre-school children aged 2-5 years, adolescents aged 12-19 years, and tripled for children aged 6-11 years.

17% of American children are affected by childhood obesity

Childhood obesity causes diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep problems, cancer, and other disorders. Some of the other disorders would include liver disease, early puberty or menarche, in addition, eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia, skin infections, and asthma and other respiratory problems.
There is no positive media medium to address these issues until now with The Gymanimals©. We need these characters and their positive health and fitness examples on television, in books, and in homes throughout America.

The objective of The Gymanimals project is to brand these characters in such a way that The Gymanimals will forever be how our children identify the topic of good physical health and nutrition. As a member of The Gymanimals we are taking a stance in the grassroots movement to become a driving force. The gymanimal members will be the pioneers to take these characters to a national level. Being a member puts you in a historical position to drive home that we, the people, are going to take control of our children’s futures. By becoming a member you are securing the validity of these characters and their stories as ‘the’ representatives in the fight against childhood obesity. We are not going to wait for the government to provide our children with good health and fitness habits….We are going to band together and make the difference ourselves!
